GCAT-SEEK: The Genome Consortium for Active Teaching using Next-Gen Sequencing

THE GCAT-SEEK Network

GCAT-SEEK is ...
  1. Developing a nation-wide network of users
    1. We utilize a list-serv and web page (gcat-seek.org) to disseminate new information, funding opportunities, and connection to necessary resources.
    2. We seek out experts to help guide new projects and teach at workshops
  2. Developing and delivering a workshop to teach faculty
    1. We get new faculty started by sequencing samples related to their research
    2. We prepare faculty to conduct research and teach next-generation sequencing tools in their courses
    3. We develop lab manuals and examples of how to use data in classes/labs
  3. Developing associations with core sequencing facilities
    1. We work with core centers to address the specific needs of educational projects and small-college researchers
    2. We facilitate shared runs and collaborations between users
  4. Providing computer resources for network members
    1. We purchased a networked computer-cluster and installed bioinformatic tools
